People's Climate March Olympic Peninsula

3:00 pm to 5:30 pm

The People's Climate March is a nationwide event intended to reenergize and build the movement for climate action in order to reduce pollution, protect human rights, and protect sensitive habitats.

Here in the Olympic Peninsula, we have the opportunity to build a coalition of communities and cultures who are dedicated to a just transition toward community resilience. Climate action here, can mean moving toward stable jobs with good wages building and retrofitting infrastructure to increase efficiency. We ask for investments to help retrain our workers to be prepared for the new economic benefits of a low carbon future.

When we work together we can achieve a better future for all of us. This is why we are concentrating our efforts into a joint march for the whole peninsula. This is our peninsula, it is our future, and this is our climate.

In addition to climate action on the peninsula, we look to protect the recently signed Paris accord, in which nations work together to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees C, and thereby hopefully sustain a livable planet. There is currently a call to pull out of the Paris agreement and unleash a new wave of unnecessary and lethal fossil-fuel extraction. With this action, we can let our voices be heard that the Olympic Peninsula supports the Paris Agreement.

Now is the time to join the wave of recent protests which are larger than almost any point in US history — and on April 29, join us and in solidarity with people around the country to mark the 100th day of new administration with a mass action that stands up for our communities.

Speakers include our MC Diana Somerville - local author and activist, Jon Preston - Forks City Council member, Kate Dean - Jeff Co Commissioner, Chad Bowechop - Manager of the Makah Tribal Council Office of Marine Affairs, Deb Stinson - Port Townsend Mayor, and Mark Ozias - Clallam Co Commissioner.

The Sierra Club North Olympic Group and Olympic Climate Action would like you to join us April 29 at 3 pm at Port Angeles City Pier. Let's march together for our future.

Parking will be available at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. 4th St.
