STOP ICE RAIDS, CREATE A LEGAL DEFENSE FUND FOR IMMIGRANTS, AND FIGHT RACISM IN SCHOOLS IN EAST MULTNOMAH COUNTY

Milenio.org, Voz Hispana, Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Pueblo Unido, and supporting unions are organizing a peaceful march and rally on Tuesday, May 23. The march will commence at 5pm at St Aidan's Episcopal Church and will culminate in a rally outside the East County Courthouse. At the rally, union members and local leaders will propose initiatives to better protect and enrich our community.

We will demand:
1.) an immediate HALT to ICE arrests and operations in East Multnomah County
2.) that city and county officials create a LEGAL DEFENSE FUND to provide ICE detainees with adequate representation in immigration court
3.) Bryce Anderson's RESIGNATION from the David Douglas School Board for the hostile comments he made towards immigrants and for voting against a sanctuary resolution in a previous board meeting

This demonstration will mark the official launch of Pueblo Unido, a grassroots movement that emerged in response to the needs and concerns of the Latino community in East Portland and Gresham. We will protest to stand in solidarity with the families affected by the governmental crackdown on immigrants and to send a direct message that ICE is a "non grata" agency in East Multnomah County.
