Candlelight Vigil to Protest U.S. Embassy Move to Jerusalem

Corner of Mill Ave & University

December 8, 2017,
6:00 pm to 8:30 pm

Carama Arizona, Coalition of Arabs and Muslims in America have called for members of our community and all supporters of peace and justice to hold a candlelight vigil to protest President Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, as well as plans to relocate the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv.

This is a blatant affront to global and regional peace, justice, Palestinian sovereignty, and ending the occupation.

Trump's decision upends seven decades of US foreign policy that has resisted a recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital before the Israeli-Palestinian conflict reaches any meaningful resolve. The final status of Jerusalem was a key issue in the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli negotiation brokered by the U.S.. Adopting a unilateral position on this key issue is expected to inflame tensions in the region and unsettle the prospects for peace. The U.S. has reached its apex in acting as a dishonest broker in this conflict.

Please bring candles, signs, and friends/family to this peaceful event.
